HOW TO MAKE COFFEE BRIQUETTES?

Coffee grounds are a raw material with extremely high moisture content, typically reaching 70%-80%. Therefore, the first step in a coffee grounds briquetting production line is dehydration. Even after dehydration, the moisture content of the coffee grounds remains between 50-60%, making it unsuitable for direct use in briquetting machines. For this high-moisture raw material, a high-efficiency, multi-stage dryer is the optimal choice, offering advantages such as high output and efficiency, and enabling continuous and stable operation. After drying, coffee grounds with approximately 15% moisture content can be used directly in briquetting machines. Of course, for better adhesion, adhesives can be used or a certain proportion of sawdust can be mixed in.

step 1: Use a coffee grounds dehydrator to remove excess water.

The first step is to remove excess water using a coffee grounds dehydrator.

A screw type coffee grounds dehydrator is essential for dehydrating coffee grounds because coffee grounds have a moisture content of over 80%. Directly drying them in a dehydrator would result in very low thermal efficiency, significantly increasing operating costs. Dehydration can improve the dehydrator’s efficiency by over 50% and reduce costs. Therefore, the coffee grounds dehydrator is the first step in the entire process.

Step 2: Use a drum screen to remove filter paper and other impurities from the coffee grounds.

Coffee grounds collected from different coffee shops contain filter paper. While these materials can be used to make briquettes, to prevent the filter paper from catching fire during the drying process in next step due to its flammability, it’s best to remove it using a drum sieve. A vibrating screen can achieve the same performance, but a drum sieve is more efficient due to its rotating operation design. If the coffee grounds you collected do not contain filter cartridges or other impurities, then you can skip this step directly.

Step 3: Use a rotary drum dryer to reduce the moisture content of the coffee from 55-60% to about 15%.

High-efficiency stacked drum dryer is a biomass dryer specifically designed for high-moisture raw materials, particularly suitable for high-moisture materials like coffee grounds. However, it’s important to note that you need to determine the heat source to use as fuel for the rotary dryer. We do not recommend using natural gas, diesel, or electricity, as even a dryer with a capacity of 1 ton/hour requires a significant amount of heat. To reduce energy costs, we suggest using wood chips or wood pellets, which provide stable heating and have lower drying costs.

Step 4: Use a coffee grounds briquetting machine to press fuel briquettes.
